Fall tips, start getting ready for winter!

Ø  Clean gutters

Ø  Make sure gutters are well secured to the home in preparation for snow and ice weight

Ø  Remove downspouts (Be sure to get them back in place when we start to thaw)

Ø  Caulk cracks on windows, sidings, anywhere where there are seams on the home

Ø  Replace any broken glass windows or doors

Ø  Check roof for loose or damaged shingles and replace them

Ø  Insulate attics and other similar spaces, but make sure vents are clear and clean

Ø  Check door seals and weather strip doors and windows

Ø  Tune up your heating systems- replace filters etc. Get a professional in to do it if not sure how to check and clean the heating unit.

Ø  Remove window AC units

Ø  Check outdoor lights, replace bulbs in preparation for earlier and darker nights

Ø  You may need to protect plumbing, (older homes) by checking exposed pipes and insulate if needed.  Check with a plumber to see if this is needed in your home.

Ø  Remove hoses and turn off exterior faucets prior to first freeze

Ø  Test fire and carbon monoxide alarms in preparation for heating and fireplace usage

Ø  Have chimney checked and cleaned before using

Ø  Clean out your dryer vent

Ø  Check with professional about what pants and shrubs may need to be cut back in the fall

Ø  Seasonal options: remove screens from windows and doors and replace with the storm door and windows if applicable

Ø  Prep for winter: make sure you have a good shovel, tune up snowblowers, winterize lawn-mower and weedwacker. Prepare yourself for a fun, snowy Minnesota winter!!
